The City of Enduring Spirit beckons me for my MBA

The day to depart for Mumbai finally and steadily approached and I was there saying my bye-byes to family and friends, and treading towards my destination Mumbai and my future MBA school-SP Jain Institute of Management and Research.
Mumbai-often called the land of opportunities and the city of enduring spirit,is not called so without a reason as I was to discover a little later.

The 1 year MBA program which handpicks people from across the country with exceptional professional experience of a minimum of 5 years, began with a bang-with a pre-foundation quiz on the very second day of the program.

Well, after all the early shocks, came the very warm and zestful celebrations of the republic day. With all people adorned in their cultural best and the atmosphere being a sublime and serene one,we witnessed various heart warming events in glory of our country. The unison and the patriotic spirit was palpable like I had never felt before, truly a memorable experience.

Well what is Mumbai without discovering the city and it's subtlities-the local trains, the vada pav ,the marathi bhai's(maids),BEST buses and so many more. The first visit was to the victims of the recent 26/11 terror attacks which were in the global limelite and which stand as a symbol of Mumbai's invincible spirit-The Taj hotel, the Trident and the Leopold cafe.
The older Taj hotel is presently closed to visitors and in undergoing restructuring ,but the wounds are very discernable. The Leopold cafe is back to its business-in a admirably short time and is continuing to draw its cosmopolitan clientele ,as if nothing had transpired, but now with an armed guard doing the rounds!Well this is the undying spirit of Mumbai and its people!!
So hats off to the "Never say die" spirit of "Aamchi Mumbai" and lets pray for the peace and strength of all the people who were affected in some way or another...

My Road to an "MBA"

The most overrated "M" word and so called buzz word of our generation - "MBA" struck me a few years of being in the IT industry. It actaully started in my Class 10 at school. In our final term a Career Counsellor was called in to our school and we were all handed out some sheets of what apparently I realize now was a 'psychometric test'.The Test lasted an hours time and had some 100+ questions. The test had no academic questions..Just some everyday questions which evaluate the fields of work that you are inherently comfortable with and which you may be actually happy working in for life. The tests were collected and then after evaluation the fields that befit your personality according to the test are presented to you.Way back then I was fondly hoping that the test would point me towards a career in medicine, what with my family of doctors and the endless hours I would stealthily pore over huge medico books.
But to my surprise the test revealed that I was a person cut out for statistics and math work and would do very good to be in the business field. Thus started my inclination to the golden buzz word "MBA".So looks like the journey that began thus is now reaching its shores as I embark on my 1 year program at SP Jain,Mumbai.!!At this point there is one person who was steadfastly stood by me and encouraged me to go for it and that is my hubby-Thank you!I happened to mention this to my interview panel too,who during the course of the interview quizzed me on this topic:)[More on my applications and interview experience in a later post]

SP Jain Mumbai was set up in 1981 and inaugurated by none other than the then Prime Minister of Britain-The lovely and enigmatic Margaret Thatcher. It has been consistently ranked as one of India's top 10 B-Schools since 1994 and continues to produce some brilliant alumni.
